Tasks/Mini-Jobs consist of completing jobs like sorting pictures, rating relevance, writing questions and answers, testing web pages, etc. Some examples of Tasks/Mini-Jobs that have been posted before are:
- Is This Photo Appropriate for a Homepage/Profile Picture
- Compare Two Search Queries
- Categorize Buildings as Residential or Commercial
- Categorize Daily Deals
- Flag Images That Contain Adult Content (Always a fun one)
The Pros
- Unlike offers and surveys, there are usually Tasks/Mini-Jobs available to users outside of the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.
- Tasks/Mini-jobs replenish at least a few times a week, meaning there is new work added all the time.
- Tasks/Mini-jobs are offered on many PTC and Get-Paid-To sites, meaning that you can look for jobs on other sites if your favorite site has ran out.
- You can start your jobs pretty much instantaneously. Some jobs require you pass some sort of skill profile beforehand, but the majority will just require you pass a short 10 question quiz on whatever the job is. Most of the time you will only have to do this once for any specific Task/Mini-Job.
- Your pay for your work is instantly credited to your account in whatever program you are using, though some projects offer bonuses that are usually credited a few days later.
- Some sites will pay you referral commissions on the money earned on Tasks/Mini-Jobs by people you recruit to the site.
The Cons
- The pay is generally low. Tasks can pay anywhere from less than 1 cent to 10 cents. There was a time when writing tasks could average you around $8-$10 per hour, but they have unfortunately lowered the pay for this (I would not recommend working on the writing tasks unless you really like it, since the pay does not seem fair). For most other Tasks/Mini-Jobs, I have earned about $4 an hour, but of course this can vary depending on how quickly you do the task and how much it pays. Make sure you search around to make sure you are being paid the highest amount possible for the Task/Mini-Job, and time yourself to see how much you can make in an hour to ensure you are not wasting your time on a job that is not paying you well enough.
- Pretty much all Tasks/Mini-Jobs are provided by a company called CrowdFlower, a company who is known to make errors and is not looked on favorably by most Task completers. While they have been known to make mistakes, they do tend to rectify them. Make sure you check your account while you are completing Tasks/Mini-Jobs to ensure you are being paid accurately and report when you are being flagged unfairly. Many sites will have a forum thread specifically for Mini-Jobs/Tasks, and CrowdFlower has it's own support forum to send in your concerns and see what others have posted.
- You will most likely need a PayPal or Payza account. This isn't really a negative thing since almost all aspects of making money online will require this, but it is an extra step you will need to take.
The Best Sites:
NeoBux: Often has the most tasks and the best pay. This should be your first site to check out while doing Tasks or Mini-Jobs. They offer a 12% for every dollar you make on Mini-Jobs as a regular member and a 24% bonus on every dollar you make as an upgraded Golden member. You can request your cash from Neobux instantaneously once you have initially reached the $2 minimum (the cashout limit raises each time by $1 until you hit the maximum minimum cashout of $10). They also pay a 12% referral commission on any money your direct referrals earn from Mini-Jobs.
Clixsense: Pays out your money Friday and Monday after you have placed a cashout request. $8 minimum cashout for standard members, $6 for upgraded members. Offers a daily bonus checklist of things to do on the site that, when completed, gives you a 5% bonus on ALL site earnings as a standard member and 12% bonus as an upgraded member. Standard members are paid a 5% commission on their referrals' Task earnings and upgraded members receive a 10% commission. If you plan to use Clixsense frequently, the $12 upgrade is a wise investment, as the bonuses will pay you back many times over.
Other Sites:
Probux: $2 minimum cashout, pays out instantly.
TreasureTrooper: $20 minimum cashout, no commissions on referrals Tasks earnings, and usually has the lowest pay. You have to wait 5 business days for the first cash out, but most other cashouts after that pay out in about a day. This site can be good for other ways to make money, like through surveys and offers, but I would recommend only doing Tasks here if you are completely out of other sites to use, or if Treasure Trooper is hosting some sort of cash contest that requires that you do them.
Amazon MTurk: I have not personally used this site, but I have heard it can be very good. There seems to be the most tasks available here, though many of them you will need to wait to qualify for. Amazon MTurk requires a fairly lengthy application process and I don't believe it has any sort of referral commission program. Also pays out to an Amazon payment processor instead of PayPal or Payza.
Many PTC sites are jumping on the bandwagon by offering Tasks and Mini-Jobs, so stay posted on our PTC updates! For now, go out there and earn!
